I actually made the following beat last year sometime. I don’t know why I never posted it here. Maybe things got a little hectic at the time. Whatever the case I was pretty pleased with how the sample got chopped and flipped. It’s amazing what some good drums can do for a simple arrangement.

I’ve been thinking about getting into this “contest” over at a website called Script Frenzy. It’s more of challenge than anything else, as people are given the task of writing a hundred page script over 30 days in April.

Real potential or real dumb?

There’s no prizes, rewards, or anything like that, just personal satisfaction that you could get the job done…and maybe some braggin’ writes. I gotta admit that it seems a little silly and even slighty audacious to believe that anything good could come out of a rushed project, but it might just be that spark that gets the creative juices flowing.

I’ve had some pretty detailed, yet random, stories flow through mind over the past few weeks – most of them from dreams. My subconscious seems to be working through a lot of gritty and weird stuff but writing about it may bring more meaning to what seems like nonsense…or maybe not. At the very least the screenwriting challenge may get the gears turning again and prompt me to get back on my lyrical hustle. After all, a wise afro-futurist sage once said, “forget inspiration. Habit is more dependable. Habit will sustain you whether you’re inspired or not. Habit is persistence in practice.”
